#1 Re When Licensed Games Were Good
I'm assuming that the people on this site were around for the NES and SNES era, when licensed games were not all crap and were used as a way for good and talented developers to get money because of teh video game craze coupled with cute characters.

Anyway, I want to talk to you guys about my most beloved licensed game from the SNES: Aladdin by Capcom.

Now, I know some people consider the Genesis version better, but hear me out. For me, this game was amazing. Having watched and loved the movie, I bugged the hell out of my grandpa so he'd buy it for me. When he did, I played the hell out of it. The level design might not be the greatest but it was fun. The whole game was just the right difficulty for me. Having hidden items to look for was also a pretty nice touch.

However, what truly made it a classic for me was the level in which Aladdin and Jasmine ride the Magic Carpet. This level had no enemies and there was no way to die. The point was just to gather jewels while listening to the music which was taken directly from the music. Needless to say, as a kid, I thought it was lame. My mom, though, loved it. She used to ask me to play through almost the whole game just so that she could play this level. This was an amazing feat because my mom was the only one why negated videogames in my house.

The game was great. The game made me bond with my mother. The game presented great challenges for a kid my age (at the time 4 or 5). It was perfect.

Now that you've read my experience, why not tell us about your retro gaming days?

p.s. As a side not, I recently revisited Aladdin for the SNES. There's this one level where you escape from a wave of lava by flying through a cave. Holy crap that was hard and I could beat it easily at age 5. Can't believe how soft modern games have turned me.

#2 ReWhen Licensed Games Were Good
I've never played Aladdin on teh SNES before. I might sometime though.

When I was young I start out play the NES. I played GHOSTS 'N GOBLINS but never beat it because it was too hard. I also played Top Gun too many times than I should have because the plane is IMPOSSIBLE to land so playing it was pretty pointless. I played all 3 Super Mario Bros. and Contra which were very good games.

Then when I got the SNES and everything was a lot more intense. Everything I did including eating and sleeping became so much more intense. I wasn't really able to get teh SNES around release though so I got the model 2 SNES bundled with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island along with others games like Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, The Lion King, Donkey Kong Country 2, Jurassic Park, and a few others.  Now that I was playing with power the majority of my day was spent playing teh SNES. I remember staying up way past midnight just to play, even when I had school in the morning I would play. It was just that intense.

Teh SNES was just so perfect for me though. I could put in any cartridge and having lots of fun.

I also got the Genesis and loved playing Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Almost everything else but those wasn't really all that fun to me.

When I got the N64 everything turned to crap and gaming didn't make sense anymore, although Super Smash Bros. was enjoyable to me. For the most part I just stuck with teh SNES and ignored the N64. By the time I got the Playstation I knew I would have to accept 3D games.

Octane you missed the part where you talk about retro licensed games (as in movie or cartoon games). You mentioned The Lion King for SNES, which I also remember (I was such a Disney kid). I'll check it out later to see if it has stood the test of time.

Disney's Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse on the SNES. I stayed up all night when I was a child to beat that game.

The best movie licensed game I can remember playing is Goldeneye on the N64.
That game had a great story, perfect controls and had an epic multi-player mode.
I think the N64 was the last system to have near-perfect games, as I think you are right, modern day games have become too soft.
They are either so easy you beat them in a day or they are so hard you never finish them.
Or they're just plain awful.
Of course this is genre-specific, there are a lot of games out today that I think very highly of, but that may just be because it's a new concept of game, (such as Phoenix Wright for example, which I am addicted to.)
On the whole, I think it's safe to say that pretty much everyone here will agree with me when I say Retro>Modern in terms of gaming, and pretty much everything else too.

I do remember playing games like Porky Pig for the SNES and getting far into it, but never managing to complete it. I had Speedy Gonzalas on the SNES too which was also a pretty fun game at the time.

I loved Animaniacs on the SNES, and also Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Rampage.
Those were some good games right there.

Woah, I just finished playing a ton of SNES licensed games (thanks NOT modded Wii *wink*). Man, that was fun.

Played Tiny Toons: Buster's something something, Aladdin, Dragon Ball Z: Boudaten 3 (something like that), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. Not one of them bored me. Amazing.

Also, Vlad, I f****** loved that game. It was so cool.
